Except they weren't pressured by the threat of death to make the perfect translation; they were under the threat of death to make the translation he wanted to hear. Anyway, no translation is perfect. If you really want to study the Bible the best thing to do is learn Hebrew and Greek and read it as it is. Course that's easier said than done Tongue

King James wasn't that shallow.  And back then people (scholars) knew Greek and Latin.  They wouldn't be able to get away with doing a bad translation because everybody would know.  and tell the king.  who would execute them for betraying their sacred duty.

Scholars today agree that the translation is pretty good, although not perfect.  As for studying Greek...

I studied French for 4 years, but I still understand a translation of Les Miserables much better than the original.  You're much farther ahead reading an expert's translation than trying to understand a foreign language on your own.

and I'm glad they put subtitles in for Hiro and Ando so I don't have to understand Japanese.   Smiley

Every hero is on a journey to find his place in the world. But it’s a journey. You don’t start at the end. Otherwise, they can’t make a movie about it later. - Ando
