She wants revenge on Sylar for what he did to her! It had nothing to do with wanting to help people or fighting villans. She was just scarred by what he did so she wanted to learn how to fight so she could go after him!
I thought it was a fantastic episode!
quick tid bits
the bank robbery was great...I loved it! Knox is awesome, and his power is so cool and original...I love it! I liked the scene in the container. I thought it was a good way to show that Claire isn't ready, and doesnt know what she's getting into. I know we wanted to see her learn new tricks, but Meredith was trying to show her that she's still just a young girl, and that even though she can't feel pain, its obvious she can still get hurt emotionally, mentally, and semi-physically. I think it was an excellent scene Sylar in a suit demanding decaf coffee- Priceless Sound Manipulation is an awesome power, and yes, I think its worthy of level 5 because of its destructive abilities. The guy could destroy whole buildings if he yells loud enough...he's quite dangerous. The HRG Sylar Pairing was just great...i laughed so hard at their little banter back and forth Angela is up to something much more mischievious than it seems, I think she's playing everyone. Remember, she's calling the shots, so people kind of have to do what she says, and that means HRG if he wants to protect his family. Angela isn't Bob, who's nice even when he's mean. Angela shows no mercy, so I don't think he wants to cross Angela just yet. Did you see Sylar's eyes light up when he saw the Flamethrower? He was like a kid at Toys R uS! that was great! I make my prediction now- Parkman and Daphne sittin in a tree! Daphne, Ando and Hiro is quite comical. I like it. I like that they make fun of Hiro's seriousness. That's what we loved about him in season 1, is that he took everything so seriously that you kind of had to laugh. The Hatian- Love it!
I think thats it for now...I'll be back though...I just have to go to a meeting for work! grrrrr

Admittedly, Sylar killed one of the people they were supposed to bring in (fire guy, woo!), but somehow I think that was part of Angela's plan. Perhaps she foresaw all this? Meanwhile, it's entirely possible she's lying about the family relation. It's also possible she's not.
It wasn't the fire guy that Sylar killed, it was the sound guy...Jessie. Bennet shot the flame thrower dude, but he survived. But you're right about Angela, she could be totally manipulating Sylar. In fact whether or not she's telling the truth, she's definitely using Sylar to her own ends. What I found interesting was how Sylar willingly returned to the company, and obediently entered his cell. But hey why not ? If she's going to "Feed" people to him.

Ya, and sylar's hunger is also for acceptance, and to be told that he's special. Angela knows this. That's Sylar's biggest weakness, to be wanted, loved, feared, and known by everyone to be special. Angela plays him by telling him all of that, and not getting on him for his hunger and murderous ways. It's enough to keep Sylar, for the time being, under her control. Her acceptance of him I think is what caused him to go back to his cell like a good boy.
Sylar's such a complicated character sometimes. I really like him.

WOWZA!! last night's heroes episode definitely put the 'zing' into A M A Z I N G!! (haha, sorry for the cheesy-ness)
seriously though, i was so impressed with 'One of Us, One of Them' that i almost don't want to write a recap until i watch the entire show over again from start to finish! in fact, i feel like i just over indulged in a piece of rich chocolate cake and am completely content to languish in a heroes coma
let me try to clear my head long enough to share some thoughts...
WHAT I LIKED - that there were no references to all the things that i originally did not like in the first two episodes (i.e. mohinder/maya story line, nathan's annoyingly excessive references to religion, mohinder's unoriginal narrative, etc.)
- the focused presentation of each storyline. i felt like each segment --whether it be claire's, hiro's, peter's, or matt's -- were REALLY well done, with just the right amount of airtime for each one. plus, the jumps between each bit helped to keep the show flow entertaining...we had at least three different 'cliffhangers' before each commercial break
- the special effects...again! the time freeze in the bank scene was visually astounding with the time suspension adding even more suspense to the moment...did anyone else think that it was sylar in the building??
- which leads me to...the DRAMA!! i can't believe how much drama they were able to fit into 60 minutes (less with the commercials!) the dynamics in each scene were great and really surprised me with their intensity.
- Claire's sobbing outburst to her biological mom about how bad Sylar had hurt her - Micah mistakenly calling Tracy "Mom?!" - Angela convincing Sylar that he was special and had just been misunderstood in the past hmmm, anyone else catch all these strong 'mother' themes - the witty banter which they had in boatloads this episod...HRG and Sylar...Hiro, Ando, Daphne...and both of Claire's moms!!
- when, oh when, did everyone's acting get so much better?! now, i don't know if it's the writing, or because it's now the third season, or maybe there's a new acting coach on the scene, or perhaps i'm just looney...but i really felt that there was added depth to each character's development last night. i LOVE the fact that these characters are becoming more believable and realistic to me (no, i don't think that it's really hiro sitting next to me on the train!)...makes me see that they have much more unique personalities then just their special powers
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE - oddly enough, i can't recall anything that i did not like about this week's episode...unless you count those annoying commercials again
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS/INTERESTING TWISTS- how many Jessica/Nikki/Tracy's did that guy create?
- who was that girl (or person) in matt's new picture?
- what is going to happen to micah now that both of his parents have passed?
- is it just an eerie coincidence that dr. zimmerman sounds very similar to mr. linderman? ?
- who is sylar's father? ...did anyone just have a 'luke i am your father!' moment??
- where can i get that song that matt was listening to for my ipod?!?

lol xcessev, I know exactly what you mean about the chocolate cake. I described my inability to write a review of The Dark Knight after only one viewing by saying it's kind of like when you take a bite of really amazing flourless chocolate cake and it's perfect, and amazing, and fantastic, and you want to explain to your date how good your dessert is, and that he should have a bite, but your mouth is so full of dense, sticky goodness that you can't manage any words, and all that comes out is yummy noises. :-) I completely agree with your comment about nice pacing during this episode. I felt like everyone got ample airtime, no-one was spread too thin, and each storyline was well-encapsulated. The banter WAS "witty"! I loved it. Felt like season 1 again. I'm wondering about the number of Ali Larter clones, too. We're up to at least three by my count: Niki/Gina/Jessica, Tracy, and Barbara. (When do we get to meet HER??) GG

HAHAHAHHH...thanks for all the answers Manderlin!!
oh yeah, and GoldenGait...i totally agree with TRu that your episode reviews are front page material!! how is it possible for you to so clearly articulate your thoughts and actually post them in record breaking time?! your review was up BEFORE the episode even aired here on the west coast! keep up the excellent work!
Hee hee. Thanks again! I type thoughts as I watch here in Chicago, and then it takes me about another 30 minutes after the episode ends to decipher the misspelled, jumbled words (I don't type well when I don't look) and organize them into paragraphs that make some sort of sense. But I've been doing it from the beginning of Heroes, and I do it for a bunch of other shows, too, so I guess I've just gotten quicker with lots of practice. :-) And I'm all for posting my reviews wherever you want, as long as my "name" is attached! Do with them what you will. And I'm not sure HOW you make flourless cake, exactly, but I've always thought it feels more like fudge than cake... Still my favorite end to any dinner, whatever you want to call it. :-) GG
