I was thinking it was Claire's father that had the power to block other's powers.  As I recall, he was alone in the room with Sylar when he said, "your powers don't work here."  But they did when Eden was alone with him, so it wasn't the construction of the room that stopped his powers.  And he'd warned Eden about trying to make Sylar commit suicide - probably because he knew that unless he was there with her, Sylar would be able to overpower her.

Even when he first spoke with Eden she told him that he wanted to let her go and he told her the same thing - that doesn't work now.

Wasn't the Hatian in the room then?  Either way we know his power has range. Matt was a ways off and couldn't get through.

Matt's power is passive, only reading thots.  But the Haitian's is active, getting into people's minds and changing them, wiping them, etc.  So like sonar, passive doesn't send out a signal, it only listens for a signal.  Active sonar sends out the "ping" to find something.  So in the same analogy, Haitian does have range, good range.  But probably similar to matt's, in the FBI questioning room, he's about same distance as Haitian was away.  But appears both need to be within 10-15 feet of them.

I think the Haitians blocking power is on all the time. He had no reason to block anything when Matt tried to use his ability on him, and ended up with a nosebleed. It's like he's a void or null spot, with the ability to create a void in others (memories, conciousness, etc.) After all, conciousness is controlled by neurons in our brains and if he slows the neurons or controls them, lights out...

wait a sec....I may be on to something here. Sylar is taking brains out of people, possibly while their neurons are still firing (while they still live). We have no reason to believe that the first guy, Brian, was instantly dead when he got bashed in the head. Also, wouldnt it be easier to take the brain of a cheerleader if they werent still kicking and screaming?

Any thoughts?

Well, most brain surgy is done when people are awake. I guess that's possible.
