I'm not so sure about that my Gnomish friend. More and more these days actors and writers talk about stuff they've read in blogs about their shows/characters. While I don't think random comments and posts are going to bring about major changes in plots and characters I think that if the producers of the show see a consistent opinion about something it may cause them to rethink some things. After all television and movie producers have often turned to focus groups to get honest opinions from "the common folk" about their product. Here they have a very wide and diverse sampling of opinions that they don't have to pay anything for. Let's not forget Snakes on a Plane which was HEAVILY influenced by internet talk. Of course it kind of tanked at the box office, got terrible reviews and was generally regarded as a joke, but it still set a precedent.
I believe "Snkaes" had a good international running and as had a great showing on DVD
